Moeurs de Césure
Mœurs de Césure was written at the instigation of French poet Philippe Denis, who asked me to set his seven “sonnets” to music. At that point in my work, I was very down on sung texts, so I decided to write 7 interludes for cello and piano to accompany the recitation of Philippe’s beautiful text. In this recording, poet Erik Kennedy reads his excellent English translation, accompanied by eighth blackbird’s Lisa Kaplan (piano) and Nick Photinos (cello).
